Women of Soul collaborates with a range of people and organisations backstage and behind the scenes to deliver our live performance and recording projects:  

 

Bakehouse Studios 

A busting hub of creativity, Bakehouse offers an inclusive and respectful studio space for rehearsal, recording, filming, showcase events and almost any other creative projects you can put to them. Many incredible artists have been supported by and passed through the Bakehouse doors. Bakehouse is inextricably linked to grassroots music activism in Melbourne, with Helen Marcou AM and Quincy McLean AM, the co-founders of Save Live Australia’s Music (SLAM), receiving Australia Day medals in 2019, in recognition of their contribution to the sector.

 

Nicole Cleary Photographer 

Nicole photographed the Women of Soul 10 year Anniversary shoot at Gale Street Studios. After a 16 year stint as photographer at The Herald Sun, Nicole established her own freelance photography business. She’s had work published in The Age, Rolling Stone, Ladies Home Journal (US), J-Mag and countless other local and international publications. She has worked with talent including Olivia Newton John, Megan Washington, Kate Hudson and many more. 

 

Gale Street Studios

Gale Street Studios, an independent, female-led photography and video space in the heart of Brunswick East, Melbourne hosted our Women of Soul 10 year anniversary photo shoot.  The expansive converted warehouse comprises crisp white walls, painted concrete flooring, high ceilings and south facing industrial windows that bring in soft natural light all day.  It’s the perfect space for intimate portraiture, look books and still life as well as larger scale styled productions, film clips and editorial shoots. 

 

Nerida Beardsell Hair and Make Up Artist 

Award winning hair and make up artists (HMUA) Nerida Beardsell assembled a professional hair and make up glam squad for our Women of Soul Collective 10th birthday studio shoot. With over 15 years of industry experience Nerida has worked as the principal hair and makeup artist for fashion runways and organised creative teams for various international magazine editorials. Her professional industry expertise includes Fashion & Beauty, Commercial, Editorial, Runway, Music Videos, Film & TV, and Events.

 

AS Films 

Anastasia is a young and passionate female filmmaker, bursting to capture the moments that impact people’s lives. With experience crewing on film sets, shooting and editing EPKs and documenting  beautiful wedding memories, Anastasia was the perfect choice to help us capture video content and interviews at our Women of Soul 10 Year Anniversary photo shoot. 

 

Tear it Up Design

Vanessa Fernandez is a well respected digital communicator and designer with over twenty years experience. After a seven year stint at Arts Centre Melbourne as resident graphic artist Vanessa founded her own agency Tear It Up, producing work for a diverse range of companies across food and beverage, retail and the arts sector. 

 

Michelle Thorne Lighting Designer 

Michelle Thorne is a Melbourne based lighting designer and technical manager with local and international experience. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Michelle likes to spend time in dark rooms coming up with interesting ways to sculpt the darkness with light.

 

Siiri Metsar Sound Engineer 

Siiri has been busily twiddling the knobs both in recording studios and behind live mixing consoles for over twenty years. Very much in demand as both a live and studio sound engineer, Sirius enviable national and international experience includes time spent as a studio engineer at Fortissimo Studio and Metropolis as well as live mixing for the Famous Spiegeltent, Arts Centre Melbourne, Sydney Dance Company, Circus Oz, Womadelaid, The Garden of Unearthly Delights at Adelaide Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and many more.
